Q: How much do classes cost?
A: Please see the tuition page in the dropdown menu under Classes.
Q: Where are you located?
A: Please see the map on the class info page page in the dropdown menu under classes.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: You may sign up and pay securely online by clicking registration, or you may give us a call or email. You must register in advance before attending! We have a limited class size, and every once and a while classes get canceled for a week - sometimes students show up without registering with no class to take! If you register, we will be expecting you. (509) 481-1533 or info@mystikdream.com
Q: Do I need to bring anything to class?
A: Please bring a yoga mat for warm up, layered dancewear (see dress code), and a water bottle. Zills, weights or other dance supplies may be needed for some classes, check your class description. A noebook and pen are also very useful.
Q: I've taken bellydance classes before, may I sign up for intermediate or advanced classes?
A:We do not automatically place out experienced dancers to higher classes. We have a unique program, and our curriculum and methods may be different than your previous training. Generally, we ask that new but experienced students take a few weeks to a month of level one classes to review and familiarize themselves with our format and technique. A solid foundation is the key to success. We may also schedule a placement class to determine what class is right for you. Keep in mind that our studio has very high standards from step one, and our beginner class may not be as simple as you think. We also tailor the material to those present and will find ways to challenge an experienced dancer in class. In any case, be patient. Even if you are placed in a lower level class temporarily, you will likely advance quickly.
Q: Why do you require leotards for children's classes? Why do you have a dress code at all?
A: When we opened our children's classes we carefully considered attire. It is extremely important that we are able to see the joint alignment and core with any student, but especially with children, as children usually have very relaxed posture. We also consider modesty. In our opinion, sports bras or halters aren't appropriate for children in class. Sizing is also a factor: attire that is considered more "bellydance style" is not readily available in children's sizes. It is also an important goal in our children's classes to create an atmosphere of teamwork, unity and etiquette for our girls, and while we encourage individuality, we believe that a dress code is an important element of this goal.
Elements of our dress code such as requiring hair to be up or clothing to be fitted are to promote safety and are expected to be followed by everyone in the studio.
Q: Can men take bellydance classes?
Yes, absolutely. Men are welcome at our studio. The folk dances from which bellydance and tribal fusion dance stem from are performed by both women and men. Furthermore, we do not believe in gender discrimination. Dance is an art form to be shared, and all people should be able to participate however they wish.
Q: Do you have any classes specifically for boys/men?
A: Not at this time. We are currently looking for folkloric teachers that would teach mens traditional dances, as well as a Georgian dance teacher, and at some point we will also branch out into other dance styles. We encourage you to contact us if you are interested - the more confirmed interest we have, the sooner we will add more classes. Please send us an email or give us a call. We are also interested in sponsoring mens workshops, please contact us if you wish to be notified of workshops!
Q: How can I get promoted to a higher level class?
A: Practice, patience and preserverance. Each student learns at a different rate and you can't put a date on advancement. If you want to be promoted, hard work is the only way to earn it. We only advance students who are ready on a technical level, have a strong core and are coordinated enough for the next level. If you think you are ready to advance you can speak with your teacher about what you need to focus on.
